Cotton postpartum belly wrap for confinement support

Does a postpartum binder actually do anything?

  • What it does. Gives your abdomen and lower back even, gentle compression. That means feeling more held when you sit up, and less strain across the lower back during long feeding sessions.
  • What it doesn’t. It will not tighten abdominal muscles, flatten your stomach, or speed up your body’s return to its pre-pregnancy shape. Any product promising more than support is overpromising.
  • Where it genuinely helps. Posture. Breastfeeding means hours curled forward over a baby, and the lower back takes it.
  • Check first if you have had a caesarean or have pelvic floor concerns. Your doctor or a women’s health physiotherapist can tell you what suits your recovery.

How to wear a postpartum binder

  • Position first. From under the bust to just below the buttocks. Too high and it rides up, too low and it does nothing.
  • Snug, not tight. You should be able to breathe fully. If it presses rather than supports, loosen it.
  • Fold, don’t stretch. If it runs long, fold the top down and use fewer ties.
  • Paste underneath. In the traditional routine the Firming Herbal Blend Paste goes on first, covered with a thin cloth.
  • Build up gradually. A few hours at first, around 12 once you’re used to it. Many find overnight most comfortable.
  • Stop if you feel dizzy or your skin becomes irritated.
